How to Prevent and Control Excessive Sweating and Body Odor

Body odor and sweating are not major issues for most people. They are easily dealt with by way of antiperspirants, deodorants and cool temperatures. But for some people, excessive sweating is a persistent problem. This is not like the kind of sweat a “normal” person deals with after exercising or on a hot day. Body odor and sweating like this make it impossible to function in a normal way. In some cases, people with this problem remain in their homes to avoid the embarrassment of facing the world.

The easiest thing to combat these issues is to not wear synthetic fabrics. Polyester is particularly troublesome for people who suffer from sweating or body odor disorders. Synthetic fabrics don’t allow the skin to breathe. These clothes prevent air from reaching the skin, which causes the body to sweat more in an effort to cool itself down. Excess sweating can lead to worse body odor levels and can be very embarrassing. Not to mention, synthetic fabric is harder to clean.

So make sure that your clothes fit you loosely and are made from natural fabrics. Let the synthetics stay on the shelves at the thrift stores. If excessive sweating is your issue you should change your clothes regularly. The simple act of changing your clothing can cut down on body odor by quite a bit. The body odor smell you are currently combating is caused by the sweat that is transferred to your clothing.

The clothing soaked in your sweat can be icky feeling, wet or sticky. This can be quite uncomfortable. Why would you keep those clothing on if you don’t have to? A nice clean change of clothing handy at all times is a great way to minimize on sweat and odor problems throughout your day.

If you suffer from extreme sweating you should make an effort to wear loose fitting clothing that is made with breathable material. Cotton is the wisest selection, as the fibers are ventilated and permit air to circulate against your skin. Discontinue wearing clothing that is too tight or clingy.

This can produce more sweat and add to your body odor issues. You should wear looser clothing that permits your skin to breathe and maintain a cool temperature. You don’t have to wear baggy clothing; although, you should wear clothing that is semi-loose and allows air to reach your skin.

Sweating is not something most people enjoy. For most people, though, it is something that is not extreme or a cause for social discomfort. For people with this condition, however, body odor and sweating can be quite traumatic and limiting. Yet people who suffer from excessive sweating and body odor do have a number of options to address this problem. You can try some over the counter medications that may help your situation. If you don’t have success with any of these, you should visit a doctor to find a more sophisticated solution. You may have to do some research and experimenting, but it is possible to overcome this problem and live normally.
