Flu season comes around every year and most people aren’t thrilled by that. In fact, it usually starts in October, just when most people are drinking pumpkin tea and eating pumpkin bread. So, if you’re going to prepare for Halloween and Thanksgiving, you should also prepare for flu season. After all, there’s going to be a lot of coughing, sniffling, and sneezing and avoiding that fact won’t make it go away(but wouldn’t it be nice if it did.). Take some time this year to get ready for it all. You’ll probably enjoy your holidays a lot more if you decrease your chances of getting the flu. After all, nobody wants to miss all the forced family fun on Thanksgiving, right?
Get a Flu Shot
Getting your yearly flu shot is one way to decrease your chances of getting the flu. They become available at the beginning of October at most walk in clinics and medical offices. This vaccine protects against 3 to 4 strains of the flu and is now available as a nasal spray. Most people like to get their shot as soon as they can. If you don’t want to spend hours in a waiting room, then just make an appointment. Now, you will have to spend some time at the doctor’s office, so bring some books or magazines to make the most of it. You can also bring some music to listen to if reading a romance novel in a waiting room isn’t your thing.
Clean Hands Every Day
Have you ever thought about how much you use your hands throughout the day? The fact is that you probably use them all day long for just about everything you do. That means you probably come into contact with plenty of germs. That’s why you need to wash your hands as often as you can. 20 seconds at a sink with hot water and soap will do the trick. If you don’t have access to a bathroom or are on the run, use hand sanitizer. To keep track of the time, simply sing Happy Birthday twice. Just be sure to hit the 20 second mark.
Don’t Be Friends With Germs
You may be doing a real great job about cleaning your hands. You may have a bottle of hand sanitizer in front of you right now. However, the truth is that some people may not wash their hands. Sorry, but it can’t be helped. So, do yourself a favor and buy some sanitizing wipes. This will allow you to wipe down publicly used items like bathroom doors and shopping carts whenever you need to. That will keep germs far away from your hands.
